Daimler Autonomous Truck Tested on Public Roads

Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics tested an autonomous vehicle on Virginia public roads on Monday, after testing the truck on a closed-loop route for months. A safety driver sits in the cab of the truck, but the autonomous system is expected to operate on its own with no need for human interference. The test will expand to more trucks in a larger area of Virginia.

FMC to Review Detention and Demurrage Policies

The U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) has announced that it will be adopting FMC Commissioner Rebecca Dye’s recommendations to review the “reasonableness of demurrage and detention practices.” Shippers can end up paying thousands or millions in fees as a result of delays that aren’t their fault, and the FMC aims to address the fairness of these penalties.

Major Retailers to Occupy Three-Story Urban Warehouse

A “first-of-its-kind” three-story warehouse is opening in Seattle to allow retailers to offer even shorter delivery times in congested cities. Amazon and Home Depot both have plans to occupy space in the new warehouse, which has freight elevators that carry forklifts and a ramp that allows trucks to load shipments from the second floor.
